brain

Listen to music
The studies have been shown that when you hear music your grey matter lights up, because of the sound, parts of your brain become much more active. There are some of the cases present in which improvement is shown after doctors are using music therapy on them.
For example music therapy improves the memories and cognitive abilities of Alzheimer’s patients.

Deep breathing exercises

Deep breath exercise can provide real and physiological benefits and it also help in the activation of unconscious mind. Many experts suggest that, for the effective functioning of your brain try alternating pressing on each nostril, so that you only breathe through one side of your nose at a time.

Play a game
Brain- training also activate or boost up the brain functioning & games are the best way for brain training. In a study about 800 students received luminosity training while 400 students receive just a regular teaching, the students who receive brain training perform better than those students who receive regular training on a brain performance test.

Regular exercise
Regular exercise is good for the active functioning of your brain. A study in California is published in “trends in neuroscience” found that exercise increases the levels of certain compounds which plays an important role in the functioning of the brain and also in promoting brain plasticity, another study published in a journal “cell metabolism” found that by the help of exercise increment of protein is occur which can improve the cognitive function. So, exercise activate the brain functioning.

Learn any language
Some of the studies also found that learning can grow certain parts of your brain. Scientists compared people who had to learn a language and other people who had to learn a lot of information in a short period of time and they found that those people who learned a language showed better result and the growth of hippocampus & central cortex.

Meditation
At the time of meditation, brain can process more emotions and thoughts. Studies also found that meditation improves the memory, focus and creativity.

DIABETES:

medicoSA:Integrated patient care practice

Diabetes is known as diabetes mellitus, in this the blood sugar level (glucose level) of the person get increase due to the poor secretion of insulin or body cells do not response properly towards insulin, which results in frequent urination, increase in hunger and thirst.
Long term complication in diabetes can cause other diseases like heart diseases, kidney diseases, also lead to blindness.

TYPES OF DIABETES:

There are three types of diabetes—
Type1—in this body is not capable to produce enough insulin that’s why is also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes.
This is not common type of diabetes, approximately 10% of all diabetes cases are type 1.

Type 2 – this is the condition in which cells are failed to respond to insulin properly (insulin resistance). This is also referred to as non insulin-dependent mellitus (NIDDM) or adult onset diabetes.
Approximately 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are of this type. Overweight and obese people have a much higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those with a healthy body weight

Gestational Diabetes – this is the third type of diabetes which is occur when pregnant women without previous history develop a high blood glucose level.
Undiagnosed diabetes can increase the complications risk during childbirth.

COMPLICATIONS OF DIABETES:

• Eye complications – glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and some others.
• Foot complications – neuropathy, ulcers, and sometimes gangrene which may require that the foot be amputated
• Skin complications – people with diabetes are more susceptible to skin infections and skin disorders
• Heart problems – such as ischemic heart disease, when the blood supply to the heart muscle is diminished
• Hypertension – common in people with diabetes, which can raise the risk of kidney disease, eye problems, heart attack and stroke
• Mental health – uncontrolled diabetes raises the risk of suffering from depression, anxiety and some other mental disorders
• Hearing loss – diabetes patients have a higher risk of developing hearing problems
• Gum disease – there is a much higher prevalence of gum disease among diabetes patients
• Gastroparesis – the muscles of the stomach stop working properly
• Ketoacidosis – a combination of ketosis and acidosis; accumulation of ketone bodies and acidity in the blood.
• Neuropathy – diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage which can lead to several different problems.
• HHNS (Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Nonketotic Syndrome) – blood glucose levels shoot up too high, and there are no ketones present in the blood or urine. It is an emergency condition.
• Nephropathy – uncontrolled blood pressure can lead to kidney disease
• PAD (peripheral arterial disease) – symptoms may include pain in the leg, tingling and sometimes problems walking properly
• Stroke – if blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood glucose levels are not controlled, the risk of stroke increases significantly
• Erectile dysfunction – male impotence.
• Infections – people with badly controlled diabetes are much more susceptible to infections
• Healing of wounds – cuts and lesions take much longer to heal.

SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES:

• Frequent urination
• Disproportionate thirst
• Intense hunger
• Weight gain
• Unusual weight loss
• Increased fatigue
• Irritability
• Blurred vision
• Cuts and bruises don’t heal properly or quickly
• More skin and/or yeast infections
• Itchy skin
• Gums are red and/or swollen – Gums pull away from teeth
• Frequent gum disease/infection
• Numbness or tingling, especially in your feet and hands

CAUSES OF DIABETES:

The causes of diabetes depend on the family history, genetic makeup, health & environmental factors.
Type 1:
In this type of diabetes immune system destroy the cells which makes insulin, this is called autoimmune reaction because in this body attack itself.
Some of the causes which trigger the diabetes are:–
• Viral Or bacterial infection
• Chemical toxins
• Unidentified components

Type 2:
In type 2 diabetes, more than one cause is involved in which Family history plays an important role. Some of the causes include
• Obesity
• Lifestyle
• Bad diet
• Increase age

Gestational diabetes:
Causes of gestational diabetes include
• Family history
• Overweight
• Suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome
• Have had a large baby weighing over 9lb

Cancer:

medicoSA:Patient Care System

How to diagnose cancer?

Timely detection of cancer helps in the treatment and survival of the patient. Medical Tools like X-rays, CT-scans, MRI Scans, PET Scans and Ultrasound Scans are used regularly in the detection of tumors that where the tumor is located or which part of the body is affected by tumor.
Endoscopy is also used by the doctors who help in detecting the abnormalities in the body of a patient.
For the diagnosis of cancer, cancer cells have been extracted from the body & by the microscope know about the cancer. This is called biopsy. Also the physicians analyze the sugar, fats, proteins and DNA of the body at a molecular level.
All these techniques are used to detect the cancer in human body.

Detection of stages of cancer:

After diagnosis, doctors determine the stages of the cancer or detect that how far cancer has spread.
The common method of staging i.e. cancer staging method called TNM system, in which:
T (1-4) indicates size of primary tumor.
N (0-3) indicates the degree to which cancer spread.
M (0-1) indicates whether cancer has metastasized to other organs.
From 0 to 4, lower number indicate, les spread of cancer in which stage 1 is curable while stage 4 is untreatable.

Treatment of cancer:

Treatment depends on the stage of cancer, type of cancer, age, status of your health.
Treatment of cancer includes the following ways:–
• Surgery
• Radiation
• Chemotherapy
• Immunotherapy
• Hormone therapy
• Gene therapy

Surgery: surgery is one of the old techniques for cancer. In this, tumor is removed and surgeon also takes a small portion of healthy tissue as a margin so that no malignant cells are left behind.

Radiation: in this technique cancer cells are destroy by the help of radiations or high- energy rays. This technique is known as radiotherapy. Radiotherapy can shrink a tumor & destroy the cancer cells. It is used with the combination of other treatments.

Chemotherapy: In chemotherapy, chemicals are used which interfere cell division process by damaging protein or DNA of the cancer cells or those cells which are dividing rapidly. This technique is also used with other techniques.

Immunotherapy: This therapy induces the fighting ability in the immune system of the body which helps in preventing the cells from cancer.

Hormone therapy: The productions of hormones which are connected with cancer get alter in this technique which results in the damage of cancer cells.

Gene therapy: damaged genes can be replaced in this therapy.

Cannabis reduce the growth of tumor

medicoSA : Centralised Medical Record Keeping System

cannabis

Researchers of university of East Anglia have found that cannabis reduce the growth of tumor in cancer patient and they hope that this research help in the development of synthetic equivalent with anti-cancer properties.

Researcher team induce tumor through the sample of human cancer cell in mice. After that they target the cancer/tumor with the dose of cannabis compound i.e. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) & they found that two cells receptors were responsible for drug’s anti tumor effects.

Peter McCormick from UEA said, “THC has anti-cancer properties, this compound is known to act through a specific family of cell receptors called cannabinoid receptors but it is still not clear that which of these receptors have this anti-tumor effect.

He said “the finding also helps in explaining the effects of THC at low & high doses on tumor growth. This must be interesting to know the molecular mechanisms behind how marijuana & THC influence cancer pathology “. And they hope that this research help in the development of therapeutics, which is available in future for the reduction of tumor growth.

Dry eyes & Contact Lenses:

medicoSA:Patient Care Practice Management System

A contact lens properly fit, float on the thin film of tear fluid. When you blink, this fluid between eye & contact lens replaced with the fresh fluid.
Dry eyes can be cause due to contact lenses, as contact lenses need moisture so they draw the moisture from the surface of the tear film of your eyes and hydrate the lenses. For the reduction of this discomfort the people who wear contact lenses, are using lubricating eye drops.
Irritation of dry eyes is caused by lack of lubrication or moisture. Dry eyes can also be caused by other factors:
• Environmental factors—environmental factors include the air particles, pollutants, smoke of cigarette and dust. Ceiling fans & motorcycles are also included in environmental factors which make dry eyes worse.

• Use of computers—excess use of computers can reduce the blinking capacity from which your eyes become dry.

• Medicines—some medicines like antihistamine, antidepressants may cause dry eyes, dry skin, and dry mouth. For the reduction of these side effects people must check the labels of medicines.

• Dehydration – dehydration is also one of the major cause of dry eyes, hydration is needed for the proper functioning. In dehydration amount of water is reduce which create problem in proper functioning and causes dry eyes.
